Players are selected onto the Academy only through a series of competitive open try-outs. Each player who is currently rostered with VIS Academy must try out again each year. The purpose of this policy is to create an appropriately competitive environment for the athletic and psychological development of VIS Academy players. Players (and parents) must understand that, to compete at the highest levels, each player must work for it.
Players who are invited to play for VIS Academy engage in a rigorous ten-month Training Module that is specifically designed to challenge them individually and as a team. By understanding that they must tryout again, players avoid the undesirable effects of complacency and develop faster as a result.
New players are evaluated during open try-outs, special clinics, scrimmages and under game situations. Current players will be formally evaluated at the end of each Training Module; however, player evaluation is a continuous process during practices, scrimmages and games.
Present and potential VIS Academy players are evaluated in four general areas, with each area representing a fundamental Pillar of Player Development.
